Personal History Statement

  • SERGEANT NICKERSON

"I joined the Omaha Police Department because I believe it is the best department in the area and one of the best in the entire country. I had worked for two different law enforcement agencies and when my family was preparing to relocate I researched all of the departments in the metro and I was greatly impressed by what OPD had to offer. They have the best compensation package combining pay, benefits and retirement. Additionally, OPD offers a wide array of specialty positions and opportunities for growth. More importantly, I was impressed by OPD's community engagement and support.

Omaha has a surprisingly low crime rate compared to cities of similar size and that is not possible without partnerships and positive relationships with the community. The administration cares about their employees and family wellbeing. With so many opportunities, an individual can have a long and happy career here.

Joining OPD has been one of the best decisions I have ever made."

  • OFFICER MATHIESEN

"Why did I join the Omaha Police Department? The answer is simple, to be a part of something bigger. Having been an out of state lateral officer, I knew that I was moving for all of the right reasons. I always respected the Omaha Police Department for their transparency, community involvement and the department commitment to Omaha. As soon as I hit the streets as an officer with OPD I realized how much the community respected the people that work for this department. That makes me proud to be here and to serve. We have amazing leadership who continuously strive to improve the department, phenomenal benefits, endless opportunities with departmental growth and competitive pay."

  • OFFICER STANBACK

"Becoming a police officer wasn’t my dream job growing up but one day, I saw that the application was open and I applied to the Omaha Police Department. And I am glad that I found a career that I love. Everyday it is something new and I enjoy going to work and helping people and being there for someone in one of the worst moments of their life. Being a police officer is part of who I am and I am proud of who I am becoming."
