Women in policingAnna Sewell
She has been with the Omaha Police Department since 1999 and has worked the Uniformed Patrol Bureau, primarily in the Northeast Precinct, for several years. She has also worked Criminal Investigations in the Gang and Homicide Units. Upon her promotion to the rank of Sergeant in 2007, she again returned to the Northeast Precinct and is currently assigned to the Internal Affairs Unit. She is an active member in the Latino Police Officer’s Association and the Fraternal Order of Police, where she has assisted with several annual community events, and has participated in the Police Athletic League. Being a women in a primarily male dominated career field serves only as a challenge to her. “I don’t let the fact that I work in a primarily male dominated career field effect me. I actually take it as a challenge. It only means that I have to work that much harder to stand equal with them. The success or failure of my career falls on no one else’s shoulders but mine.”
Prior to joining the Omaha Police Department, Sgt Sewell had served ten years active duty U.S. Air Force where she served the majority of her career overseas. She is currently in the Air Force Reserves and in 2007 she served six months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt Anna Sewell received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Human Resource Management in 2001 and Master’s of Arts Degree in Management in 2005, both from Bellevue University.
