Areas of instruction include:
Classroom instruction is then followed by 15 weeks of field training as the recruit works with veteran officers on the street. Recruits may then be assigned to solo assignments. The brand new Training Academy officially opened June 30 with a class of 53 police recruits and five fire and arson investigators. Built at 11650 Rainwood Road at a cost of $9.6 million, the combined use facility is shared by Omaha Police, Omaha Fire and the Army National Guard. The training academy exists to train recruits to Police Officers. Recruits receive their first introduction to police work during 21 weeks of classroom instruction. A basic curriculum of 459 hours is mandated by the State, and the Department gives an additional 301 hours to meet the needs of a metropolitan area.
